Why we love Natalie Portman
Born in Israel as Natalie Hershlag, Natalie Portman is now probably the most famous Natalie in the world. She’s also whip-smart, having been educated at one of those posh universities in American where all the men look like characters from .
And yet beyond the brains – she left Harvard in 2003 with a degree in psychology – is a gorgeously impish actress who really knows her craft, and manages to look as good in second-hand Boho wear as she does in an Oscar gown. There’s a big heart, too – Natalie Portman is active in a very big way with an organisation called Finca, which helps fund businesswomen in developing countries.
Natalie Portman was a child star who held her own in Leon, despite being up against Jean Reno and Gary Oldman. She was one of the less objectionable things in ‘the new but set before the old ones’ , she kissed Mila Kunis in Black Swan, fired arrows and showed her bottom in the very unappreciated , hung out with Thor in Thor, and had a baby and won an Oscar.
Now, Natalie Portman will star in not one, but two of reclusive auteur and sleepy cat look-a-like Terrence Malicks new films. Lawless and The Knight of Cups will shoot back to back. And that’s about all we know about them. Sorry.

Why we love January Jones
Anyone unlucky enough to have been dragged along to cloying Brit chick-flick Love Actually will have perked up a bit at the end when a berk with big teeth goes to America to find hot ladies. Find them he does, in the shape of Elisha Cuthbert, Shannon Elizabeth, Denise Richards and a certain January Jones, a blonde so hot she makes the agony of the films other 134 minutes worth every second. Born in Sioux Falls, a small town in South Dakota, January Jones is a former lingerie model, who’s now best known for her role as glossy but sad-faced Betty Draper.
Most recently, the alliterated actress starred in X-Men: First Class as Emma Frost, a baddy mutant whose powers include being able to cover her skin in rock hard diamonds and having a nice bottom. Even more impressive than that, she was also in American Wedding, the third and final of the American Pie films to star the original cast. Until this Summer, when American Reunion comes out! The film will see the entire original cast return, including Tara Reid and that lover of first names, Seann William Scott. It’s going to be pretty great, and it will go some way to banishing the spectre of Band Camp. January Jones isn’t in it, but she should be.

Kaya Scodelario — Sexy grumpster

Place of birth: Haywards Heath, Sussex, England
Occupation: Actress
Her History in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women
2011 #30 | 2010 #13
Kaya Scodelario facts
- Famous for her role as the moody Effy Stonem in E4’s Skins.
- She thought she was too young when arriving at her Skins audition and was on her way out when a producer stopped her.
- She appeared in Plan B’s music video for songs “Stay Too Long” and “She Said.”
- Her mum is Brazilian, and she has family in Sao Paulo. There could be worse places to visit the in-laws…
11 photos of Kaya Scodelario
Why we love Kaya Scodelario
Kaya Scodelario had no acting experience when she nabbed the role as the smouldering Effy Stonem in Skins, so it was probably quite lucky her character didn’t speak in the first few series. When she finally did speak, well it didn’t make much sense but that was more down to her character being as crazy as a soup sandwich rather than any lack-luster acting.
Kaya Scodelario is half Portuguese and can speak the language fluently. Whilst not being hip in Skins, she has appeared in films such as Brit Sci-Fi Moon and the epic remake of Clash of the Titans. She dated Cook from Skins for a while then Elliott Tittensor from Shameless. Plus she has modelled for Elle UK, Vogue and i-D. As if all this wasn’t enough to satisfy one human being, Kaya popped up in the music videos for ghetto man – turned soul man Plan B. And we’re not a tiny bit jealous. Okay just a bit.
Kaya Scodelario received ‘nuff praise for her portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw in a rain lashed adaptation of Wuthering Heights. You can be forgiven for thinking it might be boring, but it’s worth a watch, especially if you like seriously dark and sinister stories of mental and physical anguish? Though so. If that’s not your bag, in the coming two years, you’ll be able to see Scodelario in not one, but six films. And here of course, you can see her here whenever you want, for free. Or the reasonable price of a broadband connection.
Jennifer Lawrence — Natural Wonder
DOB: August 15, 1990
Place of birth: Louisville, Kentucky, USA
Occupation: Actress
Jennifer Lawrence facts
- Jennifer is an actress most famous for her role as young Mystique in X-Men: First Class.
- For her role in 2010 grim-fest Winter’s Bone, she learned to skin squirrels, chop wood, and fight. Although presumably not all at the same time unless she was fighting a squirrel up a tree.
- Jennifer doesn’t diet, because she’s tired of actresses looking “like birds” off-set. Good for her.
Why we love Jennifer Lawrence
Much like us, Jennifer Lawrence has never had acting lessons. Unlike us, Jennifer Lawrence has acted in a variety of TV shows and movies, and is a rising star in the industry. Wonder what we’re doing wrong. Maybe it’s the complete lack of natural talent and the way we look like we fell backwards out of a hedge most days. That might be it.
Jennifer started out acting in church plays in her home of Louisville, Kentucky. She persuaded her parents to take her all the way to glamorous New York to try and get into the world of showbiz, and despite that lack of training, she did pretty well. After graduating from High School early to concentrate on her acting career, her first acting gig was in the tremendously American Bill Engvall Show, about a man named – take a guess, go on – Bill Engvall, and his hi-lariously disfunctional family. The show started in 2007 and was cancelled in 2009, but Jennifer had definitely made her mark.
Since then, Jennifer Lawrence has appeared in Cold Case, Medium, Monk and has taken the lead role in the OScar nominated Winter’s Bone, a tremendously grim film about loss, mentally-ill mothers and deadbeat fathers. Lawrence is quite fantastic in it. She leaves you wrestling with duel emotions – on the one hand you want to protect her and keep her safe. But on the other hand, she’s kind of scary and seems like she could shoot you in the nuts at any moment.
Most notably, you might have seen Jennifer Lawrence as a young shapeshifting Mystique in X-Men: First Class or alongside British wunderkind Felicity Jones in inter-continental Rom Com Like Crazy. Her biggest role to date, playing the female lead in an adaptation of post-apocalyptic book The Hunger Games, is looking fairly impressive too.
What is The Hunger Games? It’s an adaptation of the wildly successful books of the same name, and it’s done fairly well too – it made over £155 million in the opening weekend. The story is set in the future, and the world has gone to hell – so to keep people placid, the evil government pick a load of kids from different districts to fight to the death live on telly. It’s a scenario that’s really not too far away -just take a look at The Biggest Loser. Jennifer Lawrence is the bow-and-arrow weilding heroine who almost definitely survives as she’s supposed to be in two more films.

Selena Gomez — The Future
DOB: July 22, 1992
Place of birth: Grand Prairie, Texas, USA
Occupation: Actress, Singer
Selena Gomez facts
- Selena is a Disney product who is hot. She’s 18 now, we can say that.
- She’s also the lead singer of a band that has had both of its albums sell over half a million copies.
- She has a rather good mix of Mexican, American and Italian genes.
- She is way too close to Justin Bieber for anyone’s good.

Why we love Selena Gomez
America has got a bit of a habit of churning out hot new talent – well what would you expect from a country the size of the whole of Europe (just about) and with a population of 309 million people? Yeah, we did our research. It doesn’t happen often, so make the most of our professionalism. Anyway, another one of those to come from the United States is Miss Selena Gomez.
According to a semi-reliable source what Selena Gomez is known best for is her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place on the Disney Channel. Now, FHM has got to be honest, it’s never even heard of Waverly Place and doesn’t believe in wizards, so that’s not how she is best known to us. And this is our section; it’s why we love her, not why anyone else might know her. So we’re doing it our way, and we say she is best known for being adorably hot.
”But how did Selena Gomez become famous?” We hear you ask. Well, it was all down to that big purple dinosaur. Yup, Selena Gomez started out as one of the kids on Barney & Friends. Then she moved in to films with a role in a Spy Kids film. Basically Disney just kept on propelling her through kids movies, until she finally turned 18 and landed a lead role in Monte Carlo alongside Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy. This was good news, because she’s been going around looking great promoting the film ever since. Being a Disney kid, she can obviously sing, but she’s even got her own successful band. And by own, we mean it’s called Selena Gomez and the Scene.

Amanda Seyfried — Big Love
DOB: December 3, 1985
Place of birth: Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA
Occupation: Actress, Singer
Amanda Seyfried facts
- You pronounce Amanda’s last name “Sigh-Frid”. So now you know.
- When she first auditioned for Mean Girls it was actually for the other two lead parts, but Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan beat her to those.
- She’s got a tattoo of the word ‘minge’ on her left foot, which is the most brilliant thing you will learn today.
- If she wasn’t an actress she says she’d want to be a weather girl.
2 photos of Amanda Seyfried
Why we love Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried sort of snuck up on everyone, and then decided to stamp her name all over the place. She started acting at the tender age of nine, and even did six years of modelling before stopping at 17 to concentrate on singing and acting. The latter started to take off, to the extent that her commitments saw her miss 70 school days in her final year of school. That’s a lot of fake doctor’s notes. Having done some television work, Amanda Seyfried made her film debut alongside Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls, and followed it up with a lead role (if there is such a thing) in the hyperlinked Nine Lives. A few supporting roles later and she went a little bit quiet.
Amanda Seyfried seemed to disappear on this side of the pond because she’d landed herself a role in the American drama called Big Love (commitments for which have caused her to have to miss out on plenty of other jobs, including the lead in 2011 hot-girl-fest Sucker Punch to Emily Browning). But then she made a pretty big return in the we-really-hope-your-missus-didn’t-make-you-sit-through musical romcom Mamma Mia! and things seemed to take off again.
Since then she’s been raking in lead roles all over the place – including Jennifer’s Body, Dear John and Chloe – along with being listed as one of the rising stars with one of the most beautiful faces in all sorts of pointless polls. Wait till she gets herself on our 100 Sexiest list, then she’ll know that she’s made it.

Alison Brie — Big Cheese
DOB: December 29, 1982
Place of birth: Pasadena, California, USA
Occupation: Actress
Alison Brie facts
- Alison’s an American actress famous for appearing in Community, Mad Men, and Scream 4.
- She was ranked #5 in the 2010 Annual Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Famous Faces From Around the World, which is a thing that actually exists, apparently.
- Before she became an actress, Alison Brie worked as a clown.
Why we love Alison Brie
According to IMDB, Alison Brie’s first role was Toto in a production of the Wizard of Oz at a South California Jewish Community centre. We’re not sure, but we think Toto was a dog. Isn’t that right? Strange. Perhaps they put her in a tiny dog-suit. Anyway. She also performed as a clown before she made it big, which at least goes some way towards healing our fear of clowns. Although not all the way. Never.
Alison Brie’s probably most famous for her role as Annie Edison in cult US Comedy Community, which is right at the top of our list of Shows We’re Totally Going To Watch Soon Honestly right next to Arrested Development and The Killing. We hear it’s fantastic. She’s also in super-slick smoking endorsement and occasional drama Mad Men, where she plays Trudy Campbell, and as Neve Campbell’s assistant in Scream 4 (or Scre4m, as it was officially and perhaps wrongly called). It doesn’t work out well for her – she gets killed in a garage. You might think that constitutes a spoiler, but come on, guys. It’s a Scream film. Barely anyone survives those.
But it’s not all big-budget films and AAA titles for our Alison. Oh no. Alison Brie’s appeared in a variety of shows, shorts and movies with titles ranging from the merely dubious (Dickie Smalls: From Shame to Fame) to the Syfy-Channel orientated (The Deadliest Lesson, Parasomnia) to the outright incriminating Hot Sluts – and we’re not making that up, you can look it up. Turns out it’s a comedy, so it’s fine. But do remeber that your place of work might not see it that way, don’t come crying to us when some IT snake grasses you up.

Freya Mavor — Skins Scot
DOB: 13 August 1993
Place of birth: Glasgow, Scotland
Occupation: Actress
Freya Mavor facts
- Freya Mavor plays the bitchy Minerva McGuinness in Skins.
- She shares her name with the Norse Goddess of Love, who rides a chariot pulled by four cats (inefficient!) and wears a beautiful necklace that she got by sleeping with four dwarfs. Classy.
Why we love Freya Mavor
We’re not going to pretend we understand Skins. Like Doctor Who, The Sugababes, and Madonna alike it seems to be able to regenerate and return looking almost completely different when parts of it become old or unappealing – we’ve gone from being partially aware that it was about shagging and drugs and the boy from About A Boy was in it to knowing precisely nothing, and getting all our information from trailers that happen to be on during the commercial breaks before, after, or during The Simpsons.
Freya Mavor is one of the current brood of Skins cast members – she plays feisty, impetuous Minerva “Mini” McGuinness, bitchy queen bee at school and on/off girlfriend to rugby boy Nick – but Freya is apparently much calmer by than her on-screen persona. Although she did skip quite a few days of school to attend the auditions, and eventually beat 8000 other hopeful teenagers to the role.
After being inspired to act by watching The Shining at the age of ten – although, really, wasn’t she a bit young to be watching a deranged Jack Nicholson hack his way through a door? – she joined the National Youth Theatre, and hasn’t looked back since. She hasn’t really had time. We imagine that being part of the confused web of lust that makes up the baseline for a standard Skins plotline is keeping her fairly busy.
Aside from Skins, Freya’s only other role to date is “Girl in Queue” in a short film called Disco, which we’re sure she was great in. But we’re sure to hear more from the Scottish starlet in the near future.

Jennifer Aniston — Friend indeed
DOB: February 11, 1969
Place of birth: Sherman Oaks, California, USA
Occupation: Actress, Director, Producer
Her History in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women

Jennifer Aniston facts
- While married to impossibly handsome actor Brad Pitt, she campaigned to keep fave TV show Eastenders on American screens.
- In Friends, her acquaintance/flatmate/lover Joey stars in Days of our Lives. Her dad starred in the soppy soap in real life.
- She is half Greek, but hates the cuisine, and also doesn’t like Chinese, Indian or spicy foods – if you ever cook for her, best make it fish fingers.
33 photos of Jennifer Aniston
Why we love Jennifer Aniston
When she was part of one of most successful sitcoms of all time, women wanted to copy her haircut and men wanted to steal her away from the chap who was a little too fond of dinosaurs. Since the demise of Friends, Jennifer Aniston and her tightly-toned frame are still in huge demand – movie producers will shell out $8m or more if it means she is smiling on the poster of their latest dreary rom-com.
She has been out with the full spectrum of men (chiseled actor Brad Pitt, thoughtful songwriter John Mayer, odd–looking funnyman Vince Vaughn, and even an Essex brickie), meaning there is truly hope for all of us to spend some time with one of Hollywood’s hottest commodities.
Caggie Dunlop — Chelsea Bunny
DOB: 1989
Place of birth: Fulham, England
Occupation: Star of Made in Chelsea, aspiring musician
Caggie Dunlop facts
- Controversially, Caggie wasn’t born in Chelsea and hasn’t ever lived there, instead preferring Fulham.
- While attending The Harrodian School, twinkly vampire Robert Pattinson was her paper boy.
- She drives a clapped-out Vauxhall Corsa that “needs to have its battery disconnected and reconnected” every time she drives it. Really.
Why we love Caggie Dunlop
Caggie Dunlop is one of the tremendously posh and tremendously pretty gels from Made In Chelsea, a pseudo-reality-show in the style of The Hills where people who are much better looking and richer than you flit about in expensive cars, fall in and out of love, and drink enough champagne to drown a small, and very well-to-do, dog.
It’s not all glitz and glamour, though – when she’s filming Made in Chelsea, there’s no waiting taxi to drive her around. “It’s the tube or nothing,” she says. Poor dear.
Caggie Dunlop’s an aspiring singer – and she’s not bad, if this YouTube video of her doing an acoustic version of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is anything to go by – and she’s rumoured to be working on an album at the moment. Her musical interests encompass everything from “Chase and Status to Edith Piaf” but she likes “finding out about unknown artists because there’s no chance of them being overplayed on the radio.” Makes sense.
Caggie Dunlop’s favourite London hangouts, according to her E4 info page, are the Thai Garden Bar and Grill, Bluebird, and Electric Cinema. So if you’re ever at one of those, keep an eye out for something singing pop covers and it might well be her. Her other interests include travel, having fantastically wealthy parents, and spending lots of money.
