Having your older sister marry into royalty would push the average girl into the relative obscurity of living in your sibling’s ever-expanding shadow. Not Pippa Middleton. The glossy brunette was the leading light of the Royal wedding, thrusting herself into the consciousness of every red-blooded male in the country almost by Royal appointment.
While not upstaging her sister Kate, the maid of honour shone in a figure-hugging dress that made the walk up the Westminster Abbey aisle a riveting watch and us, fully signed up members of the Pippa Middleton Derrière Appreciation Society – in not so much French. The 27-year-old had arrived on the world stage and within minutes was trending on Twitter and being talked about in every other forum for discussion on the planet. As far as pleasant surprises go, hers was the most entertaining performance since Charlie Sheen gave up the drugs.

Debut single Mama Do sold 200,000 copies, having entered the charts at number one. Billie Piper is the only other solo UK female artist to debut there without first having been moulded on reality TV.
Don’t think it was beginner’s luck either, Pixie Lott’s next single Boys and Girls went to the top spot as well, so she’s obviously got plenty more talent on top of what meets the eye. It’s strange how many talented people seemed to be very good at something else specialist too when they were younger. For Mollie King, hailing from a high school in south-west London it was skiing. Naturally. Mollie was more than a bit handy when she was a kid, going from her school’s ski team to the British Children’s Ski Team, and then a scholarship in the British Ski Academy. She even raced for Great Britain and was part of the British Alpine squad, but decided that was far enough and that she wanted to follow her singing dreams.
It didn’t come easy to Mollie either. Before she joined up with The Saturdays she auditioned on The X Factor as a solo artist in 2005, and despite a decent reception was told to come back when she was older. So, she heeded the advice and was on the show again two years later, this time as part of a girl band called Fallen Angelz. They got as far as boot camp. Still, Mollie didn’t dwell on it, she ditched the rest of the band and was part of the hottest girl band on the planet in The Saturdays by the end of the year.
She’s the posh, smiley one in the group, with Frankie Sandford giving her the nickname ‘Miss Disney’. Okay, we’ll admit it – we like Made In Chelsea. We don’t like the long-haired guys on the show, (long hair is for pantomime villains) and our knowledge of champagne is pretty poor, plus the lifestyles of the rich and famous easily surpass our own. Bored? Let’s go to Cannes! Feeling boxed in? Let’s get drunk in a country mansion! And if you get dumped, you’ll surely get introduced to an heir of something or other next time you go to to polo, a Mayfair hotspot or a diamond auction.
What we do like about Made In Chelsea is Millie Mackintosh. In an economy where Cheryl Cole gets handed a p45, a bag of Skittles has decreased in size by 35% and our landlord said our rent went up due to ‘that crisis’, Millie is our rock. She drinks cocktails, has loads of handbags and gets to go to movie premieres looking incredible. It’s comforting.
But being invested in a docu-reality-scripta-soap is also tough. In Series One we saw Millie falling for lanky PR expert Hugo, and a complicated love triangle involving Rosie ensued, one that made us shout “HE’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU MILLS” in despair.
Thankfully, Millie learned of Hugo’s cheating and promptly chucked a martini in his face, reality TV style. We cheered. Then we found out Millie’s not looking for another Chelsea boy since her split. There’s hope! Hugo, you’ve been a right tit; Millie is absolutely stunning – who else could make Hunter wellies so sexy?

Now we don’t all that often describe singers as singer-songwriters, but Jessie J is definitely one. Why? We hear you ask. Well, because she has written songs for a lot of people. A lot of big name people, such as: Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown. All of them wanting a bit of the J’s lyrical genius. Her debut single Do It Like A Dude was actually written with Rihanna in mind, but then she kept it for herself.
Hailing from Essex, Jessie J’s music has been described as ‘Ghetto Pop’. It wasn’t always like that though, with Jessie initially having a part in the West End musicalWhistle Down the Wind, before she eventually got a record deal. Having recorded an album though, the label went bust and she had to start all over again. Her actual debut album with a company that hasn’t gone bust, Who You Are, was released in 2011.
Jessie J doesn’t get her inspiration from drug-induced trips though, nor can she knock back a few stiff ones before heading out on stage. Jessie had a minor stroke at 18 and has heart problems which means she can’t drink, smoke or take drugs. She can’t even have caffeine. Her first acting job soon came along instead though, and it was a guest appearance on Veronica’s Closet, which was a sitcom that we like the sound of because it was clearly based on Victoria’s Secret. Well, the name was at least.
After that Zooey Deschanel moved in to films, appearing in stuff such as Almost Famous and The Good Girl before her role in Elf. It took her a few years before she nailed some lead roles, appearing in Yes Man and then (500) Days of Summer, but she’d already started singing in roles. She’d been performing as a singer away from films for a while too, but released her debut album with another guy as a band called ‘She & Him’ in 2008. Some people just aren’t satisfied with earning millions from movies are they? Still, the more we see, the better. And more we will, as Zooey Deschanel is currently starring in New Girl on HBO, where she fires up the cute and quirky to great effect.

Frankie Sandford swiftly scored a solo record deal after her kindergarten pop troupe, S Club Juniors, imploded (hopefully in a Guns n’ Roses style rock and roll meltdown, except with fizzy pop and overbearing parents, instead of Jack Daniels and Smack). But the solo career was a no go, so she learned to play the guitar, took singing lessons, and signed up with The Saturdays. Solid choice
Along with her band-mates or band-girls or whatever you call them, Frankie Sandford has released two albums and a mini-album with the gorgeous five- piece scoring seven top ten singles. More importantly, videos for their singles provide enjoyable viewing. Take Work for example: five amazingly sexy women dancing around scantily clad in a disused factory – great for both fans of scantily clad women and fans of disused factories. Sexy.
But with fame comes touring – something which may yet take its toll on Frankie Sandford’s eye-popping figure: “We end up eating food from service stations en route to gigs,” she says. “I need to go to the gym.” Hopefully it won’t damage her ranking of FHM’s fourth sexiest woman in the world, a position that Sandford grabbed after climbing from 17th sexiest in 2009. The term ‘English Rose’ is banded around to easily sometimes. But in the case of Kelly Brook, it’s absolutely true. And if you disagree with us, we will fight you. Seriously, we’d do time for this woman.
Kelly Brook’s darted from presenting (Big Breakfast, MTV, Celebrity Love Island), to movies (School For Seduction, Three,Piranha 3D), to TV acting (Smallville, Marple) and theatre (Calendar Girls, Eye Contact, Fat Pig) like some preternaturally talented acting angel sent from non-denominational, mutually exclusive heaven or otherworldly paradise . And along this journey, she’s also posed for FHM (hello), Playboy, Esquire, GQ and many, many more, all to great effect.
And as Uncle Ben once said to Peter Parker, ‘With great boobs, comes great responsibility’ or something to that effect. Having courted mega-movie star Billy Zane, who was in Titanic and erm, documentaries about the Titanic film. Action star and incredibly content with his lot in life man, Jason Statham. And probably not so content Danny Cipriani, she’s had to let them all down gently. And she has, because she’s clearly the nicest person in the world. Everyone says so. FHM regulars will remember the epic beach shoot Kelly Brook did for us in July 2010, with four actual lions (inspired by the World Cup).
